As well as bidding farewell to Silvia Gonzalez-Barroso, this month Modern Languages and Cultures says au revoir to Marion Lefebvre and Yannick Paillot, the French lecteurs whose year-long adventure in Liverpool is at its end. Marion returns to Rouen, in Normandy. She was nominated for the post of lectrice by her former University, the University of Rouen. Yannick, meanwhile, heads back to Nancy in eastern France, having been selected by the University of Lorraine.
Marion and Yannick have worked very closely with M. Edgar Rohan, the department’s longest-serving University Teacher in French, and stress how much they have learnt from him. Marion and Yannick have delivered oral French classes in all years of study, and focussed on translations, written expression, debates, and grammatical accuracy.
Working a the University of Liverpool has been a real privilege and we look forward to returning one day, not least to see how our students have progressed.
In addition to the teaching commitments, Marion and Yannick have sustained the long tradition of Café français – the weekly informal gathering of francophones (both students and first-language French speakers) attached to the University, to relax and converse in French. This year, Café français met in the Cambridge pub on campus, and was a tremendous success, with the last meeting taking place at the end of May.
