CLAS hosted its first Routes into Languages event for 88 pupils and their teachers from four local secondary schools on January 29. The Film and Culture Event for Languages (FACE) was designed for students in Years 10 and 11. The day started with a Career and Languages talk by Diane Appleton from the Careers & Employability Service, followed by language sessions based on French and Spanish films. In the afternoon, students were introduced to additional languages in a range of taster sessions, including Arabic, Basque, Mandarin Chinese, German and Italian.
The University of Liverpool joined the Routes into Languages North West Consortium in Summer 2013, under the leadership of Dr Ulrike Bavendiek and Mr Nelson Becerra Gonzalez. Routes into Languages aims to promote and facilitate the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages in both mainstream and supplementary schools.
The next Routes into Languages event will take place on 5 March. It will introduce sixth form students and students from the University of Liverpool to the advantages of the Year Abroad.
Another FACE event for GCSE students will be organised on 7 May.
Congratulations to Ulrike and Nelson, and everyone involved in this important and successful event. We look forward to many more in the future.
