The RILAS seminar on Thurs 17 Nov will be given by:
Professor Leigh Payne (Fellow of St Antony’s College University of Oxford), on “Latin America’s Transitional Justice Success Story”
Transitional justice mechanisms, or efforts to deal with past human rights violations, have proliferated around the world. Only recently scholars have begun to analyze the impact of these mechanisms on human rights and democracy. Using the Transitional Justice Data Base, this talk will examine the relative success Latin America has experienced in using these mechanisms, the explanations for that success, and the likelihood (or not) that other regions of the world will develop similar successful models.
The seminar begins at 4 pm in the LAS Building (86 Bedford St. South) in Lecture Room Three. Wine reception to follow – all welcome!
