Staff from SOCLAS spent a profitable day at Aston University at a training day for University tutors teaching linguistics in modern foreign languages. Ulrike Bavendiek, Robert Blackwood and Stefania Tufitravelled down to Birmingham to join colleagues from across UK universities to share best practice in teaching and to discuss strategies for enhancing the position of linguistics on curricula for modern language degrees.

SOCLAS staff at the LLAS Subject Centre workshop

The workshop was organised by the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies, and was part of their series of seminars to support staff in HEIs working, researching and teaching in modern languages. Staff from SOCLAS were delighted to be reunited with former colleague, Paul O’Neill, now lecturer in Spanish at the University of Sheffield.
