Congratulations to Professor Eve Rosenhaft, a social and cultural historian of modern Germany, who has been elected Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences.
The Academy’s mission is to promote social sciences in the United Kingdom for the public benefit. It is composed of over 700 Individual Academicians and 40 Learned Societies. Academicians are distinguished scholars and practitioners from academia and the public and private sectors; they are nominated for election by Learned Societies or other Academicians on the basis of their contribution to the social sciences.
Eve says: I’m pleased and honoured by this recognition, especially because this is a moment when the social sciences (in the broadest sense) are both more necessary than ever and under challenge. We are witnessing critical changes in the economic and institutional environment, and evidence-based knowledge about how society works and has worked in the past has to be communicated effectively to the public and government.
Prof Eve Rosenhaft is currently completing a book about Africans in twentieth-century Germany, and is beginning a new project about popular investment in 18th-century Germany.
